Citation & Style Guides

Making Citations is a Three-part Process:

First, identify the in-text citation with a superscript number after the punctuation. Second, place the corresponding full citation into a notes section and, third alphabetize the full citations in the bibliography (a bibliography is optional when using an endnotes page).

Notes sections:
•    Footnotes are at the bottom of the content page.
•    Endnotes are on a separate page at the end of the paper.

Example

Part 1: In-text citation:

The Library at the Hearst Castle housed more than 4,000 books and ancient Greek vases.1

Part 2: Notes entry:

As a full note:

1. Kastner, Victoria. Hearst Castle: The Biography of a Country House. (New York: Henry N. Abrams, Inc.), 142.

As a shortened note (for subsequent citations of the same source):

2. Kastner, Victoria, Hearst Castle, 157.

Part 3:  Bibliography entry

Kastner, Victoria. Hearst Castle: The Biography of a Country House. (New York: Henry N. Abrams, Inc.), 142.
